Pickin' and Grinnin'

Remember the old show "Hee Haw?"

There was a skit that Roy Clark and Buck Owens did where they would play the banjo and guitar a little, then stop and tell a terrible joke.

Buck- "I'm a pickin!"

Roy- "And I'm a grinnin!"

Don't know who that guy in the middle is :)

With football season about to kick off (see what I did there?), I took a few minutes to look back at my sports handicapping results over the last year. Although I won't be retiring on my winnings, or making a living at it like Coach is striving to do, I was pleased with my results, so I guess you could say I was grinnin' at my pickin'... or something like that.

My hockey results are the most satisfying to me. After posting a losing year in my first attempt at handicapping hockey, I was able to turn it around for a $76 profit last season. Football was a little disappointing, but I still managed to book an $85 win.

Basketball was strong for me last season, adding $148 to my bankroll, but as expected, baseball was my most profitable, bringing in a $195 "windfall."

So, 4 for 4 on the major sports. Hopefully the streak will continue through another rotation!

The NFL season is just around the corner and I will again be hosting the NFL Picks contest. First prize will be another NFL team shirt. We'll have to see if anyone can unseat two-time defending champion Memphis Mojo. I'll put a post up explaining the rules and how to enter sometime next week.

Finally, a moment to thank all of you who visit this little corner of the interwebs. I appreciate you taking the time and especially look forward to your comments.

  1. I'll be playing -- have to defend my title, after all. I'm headed to St. Louis for the game tonight (Thursday), and, as it happens, am wearing the Cardinals gear (jersey/shirt) you were kind enough to send me for winning last year.

    1. BTW, there's a new rule this season. The MOJO Rule. If you win it three times in a row, I get to pick the shirt! I'll bet you'll look good in orange.

      ASTROS Orange!

  2. no WNBA?????????? that is sexist. JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is the reason i like yr blog. it shows (the reality) that sportsbetting is a horrible way to try and make a living. the REALWINNERS r the sportsbook and "pro" handicappers. i bet on a free betting site. bcuz 1) it is FREE 2)they got contests to make some (weed, taco bell, ammo, baja blast) money.the best example,of how hard it is to make money, is the 25K streak. if u pick 25 correct bets in a row( -110 or better). u win 25,000.any picks too. soccer, football, baseball, whatever.this contest has been running since 2010 with NO WINNER. that is y i laugh when on RTP ppl talked how they r making cash on betting on sports. well,if that is the case, 25 grand 4 25 days work. BOOM there it is.prove it.shit. they also have a 10 in a row streak 4 100 bucks and that has been running since june this year. BUT having said that JAGS UNDER 4.5. BET IT ALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. still waiting on that lotto update. OPEN CARRY TEXAS, BABY

    1. Just don't follow the WNBA enough to make informed choices. Same goes for kickball (soccer).

Next lotto post coming up as soon as I scrape together 5 bucks for a scratch-off :)

    2. SWEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i won 20bucks today on a dollar tix. i am thinking of going pro
