SNG Challenge-Race to 100

After mowing the acre of grass nestled around my home, I sat in front of the TV with my laptop and fired up a $3.30 Triple Up tournament on Bovada. It turned out to be a weird one.

My first five hands were A-J, T-T, A-K, J-J, A-K. You'd think my 1500 chip starting stack would be YUGE!!! (Donald Trump impression). You'd be wrong.

I only connected on one flop, with both pocket pairs falling victim to over cards, followed by big bets on the flop. After all the early action I had 1470 chips.

A lot of excitement for 30 chips.

The starting nine players hung around quite a while, and when we hit the 75-150 blind levels, there were still seven left, one dominating stack to my right, and several of us with around 1,700 chips.

I open pushed from the small blind with T-9 and got caught when the BB woke up with A-J and called. I didn't improve and found myself down to 261 chips, less than 2 BB. Not good.

The very next hand was A-K soooted. I pushed and received three callers. An ace on the river won the hand and I was back in business with over 1000 chips.

Blinds increased to 100-200 on the next hand and my heater continued. My next three hands were A-J, Q-Q, and A-K. I pushed all three hands to no callers and chipped up to almost 2000.

The big stack lost a couple big hands and was knocked out when he lost a third and we were down to six players, three large stacks and three small.

The shorties kept winning their all in bets and hung around until the 200-400 level. Things ended quickly at that level and although I wasn't involved in any of the important hands, I was able to finish second in total chips and book win 18.

A nice come back from 261 chips :)

Eighty-two more to go!

Till next time, win the flips.

SNG Challenge- Race to 100

After completing several chores yesterday, I settled in front of my laptop and fired up a $3.30 Triple Up tournament on Bovada.

I played pretty snug in the early rounds, but finally made some hay when I raised from middle position with pocket kings. The action folded to the button, who pushed for 1,000 chips, which was about 20 big blinds.

Of course I called and my opponent tabled 6-6. Neither of us improved and I was sitting on 2,500 chips.

We got down to the bubble (four players) quickly, but it took a while for the final elimination. I was able to stay ahead of the pack for the most part by stealing blinds. I would get three bet occasionally, but my success rate was high enough to build a nice stack.

Blinds were at 150-300 when the final hand occurred. I open-raised to 650 from the button with A-K and the small blind pushed his last 2,200 chips with A-T. Unfortunately for him, this time I had a hand and made the call.

Things improved for the villain when a ten hit on the flop giving him the lead in the hand. The good news for me was that all three cards were diamonds, and I was holding the king of diamonds.

The fourth diamond appeared on the turn, completing my flush and left my opponent drawing dead on the river and knocking him out of the tourney.

So, win number 17 is in the books...only 83 to go.

Till next time, win the flips.

SNG Challenge-Race to 100

I finally had a little time Sunday night and fired up a $3.30 Triple Up tournament on Bovada.

The most interesting hand of the tournament happened very early. In only the second or third hand, I peeked down at pocket queens from the big blind. A 3X raise from the cut off was welcomed with a four bet from yours truly. My opponent called and we looked at a Q-3-4 rainbow flop.

*Bink*

I placed a 1/2 pot bet and received a quick call. I fired again on the turn, this time betting around 1/3 pot. I didn't want my fish to spit the hook.

The river was a brick and I thought my best move might be to check and hope the villain would bet. I was hoping he was sitting on pocket aces or kings. Even if he had something as weak as A-K or jacks, I thought he might take a stab at it.

I wasn't disappointed, but I was curious at his bet sizing. We both had started the hand with our original 1,500 chips, and he bet all but 80 of his on the river. Even more interesting was his fold when I pushed for the additional 80 chips.

I guess the pot odds weren't good enough to call :)

That hand gave me a nice stack that I was able to build on and I kept the chip lead wire-to-wire to book win #16.

Till next time, win the flips.

Close, but No Cigar

Although it's for pretend chips, I've enjoyed playing in several of the FTOPS tournaments, even winning the Main Event last summer.

I came close to winning one of their tourneys yesterday, but went card dead once heads up. Several times I would flop second pair (usually a strong hand HU), only to be shown top pair by my opponent.

I pushed an open-end straight draw on a 9-7-4 rainbow flop. Of course the villain had a nine, leaving me drawing to a 5 or 10 to complete my straight. Neither came and I settled for runner up.

Dang!

Till next time, win the flips.

Texas Lottery Chronicles- "Set for Life"

Today's $5 ticket is titled "Set for Life." The top prize is $2,500 a week for 20 years. At only 5,000,000-1 odds, I'm quite sure it will be mine!

Odds of cashing are 4-1, with the object of the game to match one of your 20 numbers with the "winning" number at the top of the ticket.

I have decided to take a different approach this time by scratching off only the numbers to see if any match. If a number matches, I'll them reveal the prize amount.

A little suspense, if you will.

So, let's take a gander at the winners and see if we match any on the top line.

Looks like we whiffed 'em all. On to line two.

No bueno once again.Hopefully, the third line will treat us better.

Alright! Looks like three's a charm as we match #19. We'll finish up with line four and then come back to see how big our prize is.

No luck on our last line, so let's go back and see how much we have coming our way :)

Five dollars. Disappointing.

At least we broke even on this one.
