It will be a special Christmas at the Duck Blind this year. For the first time in 15 years, we will be staying home. In almost 33 years of marriage it will only be the second time we have stayed in Waco.
Ms. Duck and I attended a Christmas Eve service at our church tonight, but neither of our kids were able to join us. My daughter is sick with either a cold or the flu (hopefully the former) and Sonny Boy was headed for a Christmas party with his girlfriend.
We usually make the 5 hour drive to share Christmas with my in-laws, then jump in the car after lunch and make the 5 hour return trip home. We take about an hour to open presents and then head for my mothers for another tree. By the time we finish there and head home, we are dead tired.
Ms. Duck's sister works at the county jail as a nurse and was unable to get time off for Christmas, so we will make the aforementioned drive Friday and return Saturday. I'm sure we'll be plenty tired by Saturday night, but being able to have a relaxed Christmas at home will make it worthwhile.
Wishing each of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2014!
Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Duck. Enjoy the season!
