Streak Ends

We had eight runners show up to pitch a few cards Friday night at Tin Man's $5 NLHE Tourney. From left to right on your radio dial were Big Daddy, Josh, Bluffin' Bev, Phillie Phanatic, Lil' Annie Okie, Tin Man, and your humble scribe.

I had won or chopped the last four tourneys and was looking to extend my streak to five. I was the SB in the first hand and looked down at Big Slick. With three limpers in front, I raised 5X the BB ($10) and got two customers. The Q high flop missed me, but I threw out a 1/2 pot continuation bet and took down the pot.

Blinds were only at the second level when Lil' Annie Okie felted Tin Man with a 6 high straight, which was enough to beat Tin Man's wheel. Josh was the next to fall when Bluffin' Bev rivered a straight and won the $8 bounty. Bev was the next to go broke, followed by Annie. I felted Big Daddy with my top pair, which held up to beat his second pair and gut shot straight draw.

That left Phillie and myself and we decided to play it out rather than chopping first place. We traded barbs over a dozen hands or so and finally got it all in pre-flop. Philly tabled pocket eights and I had the same hand I started the tournament with, Big Slick. I paired my king on the river, but Phillie had flopped a set and it was too little, too late fo me. But I did turn a profit by cashing the $15 second place prize, so it wasn't all bad news!

Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend. Thanks for stopping by :)

Till next time, win the flips.

College Football Picks, September 3rd

There are a couple of interesting games on this first Saturday of the college football season.

$11 @ 11/10 on Auburn (-21) over Utah State

Auburn is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games versus WAC teams. I look for a comfortable win the the Tigers in this one, somewhere in the 24 point range.

$11 @ 11/10 on Missouri (-16 1/2) over Miami, Ohio

Missouri has won 21 straight non conference regular season games. Miami has lost 11 of 12 versus BCS teams. Look for the Tigers to cover easily and win by around 23 points.

College Football Picks, September 2nd

ESPN is televising an interesting game between TCU and Baylor tonight.

$11 @ 11/10 on TCU (-4 1/2) over Baylor

TCU has only lost once in the last two years, but have lost 14 starters from last years Rose Bowl team. The Horned Frogs (love the name!) will try to run the ball on the Bears defense, which is learning a new system under their new DC Phil Bennett. The big question will be whether Baylor's defense can stop the run. If they can't, the Frogs will be able to keep the ball away from QB Robert Griffen and a very capable Bear offense. This game will be closer than most people think, but TCU should come away with a win, somewhere in the 20-14 range. Since Baylor is my hometown team, I kinda hope I'm wrong on this one. A win over TCU would be great for the Baylor program!

Starting Bankroll        $2,000.00
Profit/Loss                     $10.00
Current Bankroll         $2,010.00

MLB Picks, September 2nd

One game on today's schedule that looks like a good bet.

$40 on Tampa Bay (Price) over Baltimore (Britton), -1.5 @ +$100

Price is 2-1, 0.78 ERA in his last three starts. Britton is 3-6, 6.71 on the highway this season. The Rays have fared well against leftys this season, posting a 25-16 record. The O's have struggled against southpaws, winning only 15 of 41 games.

Starting Bankroll         $1,500.00
Profit/Loss                      $13.43
Current Bankroll          $1,513.43
