NFL Picks Contest (Bumped)
(Here's the list of folks who have already signed up- MOJO, lightning36, ggrouchie, Vegas Vic, Music City Momma, Two Minute Warning, One and Done, Coach, Very Josie, Neophyte, M. Prosk, angerisagift, Waffles, Grange95 and Josie's Boytoy.
If you haven't signed up, either leave a comment below or e-mail me at nfl.picks@ymail.com. Picks for this week's games are due by Saturday at midnight CDT. Please e-mail your pick to nfl.picks@ymail.com. I'll post everyone's pick once they're all in.)I read several of Josie's posts about how awesome she is at picking winners of NFL games, having won her league three consecutive years before surrendering her trophy last year, and thought it might be fun to have a friendly contest here at Small Potatoes to see who is the best prognosticator on the internet!
I ran this contest last year, hoping it would last all season, but my fellow bloggers sucked so bad at picking winners, it only lasted eight weeks and I had to run a second contest (and give away another shirt). So here is your chance for redemption.
This contest is open to any and all who stop by to read this blog. There is no entry fee, and you can enter by e-mailing me @ nfl.picks@ymail.com or commenting below. Jump in, there's nothing to lose and you might win a shirt!
The winner receives a tee shirt or sweat shirt (your choice) with the logo of your favorite NFL team. If there is a tie at the end of the season, all remaining contestants will receive a shirt.
Here are the rules.
Each week I need your pick BEFORE the first game. No point spread, just an out right winner. If that team wins you advance. That simple. If there is a tie or your team loses, you are out. Each week the amount of players dwindle until the last man, woman, or child, is standing, or the regular season is over.
IMPORTANT RULE: the first seven weeks you can pick the same team. After that you are allowed to pick a certain team only once. Say weeks 2 thru 7 you pick the Dolphins and they win. Week 8 you pick the Dolphins. They are off the board for you for the rest of the pool. The 9th week you pick the Bears and they are off the board for the rest of the pool and so on until the end of the regular season. This pool will only be for the regular season. Whoever is left at the end will receive a shirt.
Each week you must email your pick to nfl.picks@ymail.com before the first game starts for the week playing . And remember, there are a few Thursday night games during the season. If you have questions, please e-mail me at nfl.picks@ymail.com.
I am not going to count the Wednesday night game this week so everyone who wants to sign up has time. You will need to be registered and have your week 1 picks to me by this Saturday at midnight CDT to be eligible.
Is Josie really as good as she claims? Can you beat her? Can anyone? Time to put up or shut up!

MLB Picks, Sept 7th
There are several games on today's MLB menu, but only one that is actually worth betting. I like Cliff Lee and the Phillies against Colorado, but the price is too high. Also, the Tigers and Scherzer against the Angels, but the Halos are red hot right now and I try not to bet against hot teams.
$10 on NY Mets (Niese) over Atlanta (Maholm) @ -$105
Profit/Loss $ 301.50
Current Bankroll $1,801.50
Action is considered dead unless both listed pitchers start.

$10 on NY Mets (Niese) over Atlanta (Maholm) @ -$105
In the Big Apple tonight, Jonathan Niese gets the nod for a hot Mets team, who have won 8 of their last 11 games. Niese is the "deuce" man, posting a 2-2 record with a 2.22 ERA in his last 4 starts. The Braves counter with Paul Maholm, who has struggled recently, sporting a 0-2 record with a hefty 7.47 ERA in his last three outings. Atlanta is 38-28 on the highway, so I'll tread lightly on this one.Starting Bankroll $1,500.00
Profit/Loss $ 301.50
Current Bankroll $1,801.50

Random Thoughts
Did you hear the one about the guy that bet $3,000 last week that the Texas State Bobcats (a 37 point underdog) would beat the University of Houston straight up. The good news is that he cashed a ticket for $105,000. The bad news is that it wasn't Texas State's favorite son, Coach. But, that's the type of week it's been for Coach :(
On the other hand, boxer Floyd Mayweather laid down $3,000,000, yes $3 million, on Michigan to cover against Alabama last weekend. OUCH! Talk about a bad beat.
Congratulations to my favorite baseball team, the Houston Astros, for becoming the first team in almost 100 years to go 8-47 over a 55 game stretch. I guess that's what happens when you have minor league talent playing in the major leagues. Wait'll next year!
Finally, don't forget to sign up for my Small Potatoes NFL Picks Contest. It's free and you can win a tee shirt or sweat shirt with the logo of your favorite NFL team. Click here for the details.

$15 on the OVER (9 runs) Texas (Feldman) @ Kansas City (Hochevar)
Two pitchers who have struggled lately face off in Kansas City tonight. Scott Feldman, who is 0-5 with a 6.99 ERA in his last five starts, takes the ball for the Rangers and Luke Hochever, who has posted a 0-2 record with a 6.11 ERA in his last three outings gets the nod for the Royals. Feldman has a 6.19 road ERA and Hochevar sports a 5.96 ERA when pitching at home. The OVER is 4-0-1 in the Royals' last five games.
