MLB Picks- Regular Season Ends

Much like the Texas Rangers, I had a tough week to finish the regular season, but still finished in the black. Unless my playoff picks are disastrous, I should have a profitable baseball season once again.

Against the advice of Cardinal fan Memphis MOJO, I'm leaning heavily towards putting a few sheckles on the Braves in tomorrow's NL Wild Card game. A little more research is necessary before making that investment. I'll let you know.

Starting Bankroll           $1,500.00
Profit/Loss                     $ 238.50
Current Bankroll            $1,738.50

Action is considered dead unless both listed pitchers start.

Good luck!

Pokerpalooza Royalty

We had nine runners at the Duck Blind for our Tuesday night Pokerpalooza.

After a fried chicken meal with chocolate cupcakes the M2 made for us, we were tossing cards shortly after 7 o'clock. Seated around the felt were Farmer Harry, Ollie the Accountant, Bobby Dee, Stamps, Dealer Larry, Ray-Ray, Glass Man, J-Dawg, and yours truly, Lucki Duck.

Glass Man won the High Hand Jackpot early in the evening in this dealer's choice, limit game, when he hit a Royal Flush in an Omaha hand. Even with the HHJ in his pocket he still only broke even for the night.

Farmer Harry took a beating, losing almost $50, which is hard to do at this game. Stamps was the beneficiary, walking away $37 to the good. Ollie and J-Dawg both had profitable nights, with the rest of us pretty much breaking even. I finished with a windfall $1.25 profit :)

Our game will be suspended for a couple of weeks as many of our players will be working at the local fair. They belong to the the local Lions Club and have a carnival game they run to help fund their cause. Some kind of a "Wheel of Fortune" gig.

I'm headed over to see a movie with my friend Grant this evening. Grant was injured in a wreck in LA a few years ago and after quite a few surgeries, survived it, but came out the other side as a quadriplegic. He has one heckuva set up in his room for movies and I always enjoy going over. He was a screenwriter in LA, with horror films his genre', so whenever I visit he likes to put on something that scares the crap out of me! It should be an interesting visit.

Till next time, win the flips.

MLB Picks, Oct 3rd

Nothing on the docket today that interests me on this final day of the regular season. We know that St. Louis and Atlanta will meet in a one game Wild Card playoff on Friday in Atlanta. The Braves have won 5 of the 6 match ups this season, so there might be a +EV play there.

Starting Bankroll           $1,500.00
Profit/Loss                     $ 238.50
Current Bankroll            $1,738.50

College Football Picks- Update

Thanks to a couple of Big XII teams, I finally got my football bankroll in the black last weekend. Although Florida State didn't cover (-16), Texas and Texas Tech both cashed.

Football fans here in the heart of Texas are still buzzing about the Baylor/West Virginia track meet won by the Mountaineers 70-63. West Virginia had over 800 yards of offense and Baylor tallied up over 700. What a game! If I were Baylor, I think I would have left my defensive coordinator in Morgantown.

Starting Bankroll         $2,000.00
Profit/Loss                   $ 15.00
Current Bankroll          $2,015.00

MLB Picks, Oct 2nd

Only one game on today's menu that's worth a peek.

$20 on Texas (Harrison) over Oakland (Blackley) -1 1/2@ +$115
In a battle of southpaws, Matt Harrison takes the hill for the Rangers versus Travis Blackley and the A's. Texas has fared better against leftys than Oakland, posting a 28-18 record this season while the Athletics are 29-29. Harrison is 18-10 with a 3.26 ERA this season and is 3-1 with a 2.54 ERA in his last 4 outings. By contrast, Blackley has surrendered 9 runs in 3 innings in his last two starts. In his last start he gave up 5 runs in 1 inning against these same Rangers. Although Texas has dropped 5 of their last 7 games and the A's have won 16 of their last 21 at home, look for the two-time defending AL Champs to squash the A's hopes for a division title tonight and clinch their third consecutive AL West crown.
I hope.

Starting Bankroll           $1,500.00
Profit/Loss                     $ 258.50
Current Bankroll            $1,758.50

Big Daddy Goes Duck Hunting

It was a wild time at Tin Man's $5 NLHE Tournament Friday night. I guess that's a little misleading, as the tourney wasn't that exciting, but the cash game was chock full of big pots.

Seated at the tournament table were Big Daddy, Flyboy, Shooter (new player), Philly Phanatic, Lil' Annie Okie, Tin Man, and yours truly.

I started fast, picking up several big starting hands and getting paid off in a couple of them, but then had a bad run of cards when the blinds got big. Big Daddy bluffed me out of a decent pot when he bet big on the river with a board showing four clubs. I folded my trips and Big Daddy showed pocket kings, neither a club.

I open shoved from the button for 6 BB with K-7 suited and was called by both Big Daddy (Q high) and Flyboy (A high). None of us paired and Flyboy knocked out both of us with A-5 and went on to win the tourney. At least he made good use of my chips.

In the $2 buy in cash game my chip stack had some wide swings. At my highest point I had around $15, but ended the evening broke. Big Daddy and I were involved in several big pots, with him getting the last laugh when all was said and done.

In our first tussle, I raised 4X from the button with 5-2 offsuit. I was hoping everyone would fold so I could show the hand, because I felt my image was too tight and I wasn't getting any action on my big hands. Big Daddy decide to protect his BB and we saw a flop of 6-5-2. Big Daddy checked, I bet 3/4 pot, and he shoved for his last $4. I called with my two pair and Big Daddy tabled T-T. Of course, runner runner kings gave him the better two pair.

Crap.

I did win most of it back when my full house beat his straight, but then lost when my top two pair was whipped by his flopped set.

My final hand of the night was pocket aces. I raised 4X BB after a limper and got three callers. A king high board, all clubs. was checked around to me. Figuring at least one of them was on a flush draw, I wanted to make them pay a premium to draw to it and shoved my last $3. Unfortunately, Lil' Okie Annie had already hit her flush with her 6-2 soooted.

Crap again.

I left $10 lighter for the evening, but it was an enjoyable time with good friends. Cheap entertainment.

Till next time, win the flips.
