Another year is in the can for Small Potatoes Poker and Sports Betting. This little corner of the blogosphere came into being two years ago today.
For a peek at my maiden post just click here and my first anniversary entry is here.
Online poker was humming two years ago. The Mookie was one of the favorite blogger tournaments, and then Josie had the "Very Josie" once a month. Both had good turnouts, and the banter was always much better then the poker.
Then the DOJ turned the poker world on it's head. We learned a lot about Full Tilt Poker, the site that hosted both the Mookie and the Very Josie, and what we learned was not pleasant. We had been seduced by the slick packaging of the televised poker shows and magazines, only to learn that some of the people we entrusted with our bankrolls were not trustworthy at all. A little over a year after the walls came tumbling down on internet poker in the US, the online poker community is a shell of its former self. And "the land of the free" lost some of that freedom last April.
Because poker content became, not extinct, but certainly endangered, the bloggers that hung on had to adapt, and quickly. For me, I had some success betting Major League Baseball over the past few seasons, and decided to start posting my picks. After a rough start last season, I finished with another winning year. I also posted my college and pro football wagers last season and won a little more cash-ola. And now we're about a month in to another MLB seasson and off to a much better start than last year.
Because of this blog, I was able to make a circle of new friends, and have had the pleasure of meeting several of you in Vegas, including Grrouchie, lighting, and Neo. Josie was very supportive from the beginning, and was the first to add a link to Small Potatoes. Gary, Memphis MOJO, Waffles, crAAKKer, Wolfman and Ken P, are a few of the folks I hope to meet one of these days. And now we have a few new bloggers that have settled in to our little corner of the world. Rob, Carmel, Grrouchie, and probably a few I've forgotten, all have interesting blogs that are worth a peek.
I mentioned in my "1st Anniversary" post that I had seven followers. That number is now 19, so I guess that means I'm headed in the right direction? Anyhoo, thank you to everyone who has stopped by for a read and left a comment. I've enjoyed the ride and hope it continues for a while longer.
Congrats on two years! One of these days I might actually place a bet or two on baseball, but my history with the sports books is not pretty.
ReplyDeleteJust bet against the Cubbies and you'll do fine :)
DeleteMake that 20. I come here everyday, and just realized I hadn't signed up as a follower. Happy Blogiversary.
ReplyDeleteonly to learn that some of the people we entrusted with our bankrolls were not trustworthy at all.
Not trustworthy is putting it mildly. How about dishonorable.
Thank you sir.
DeleteIf most of what is being reported ends up being correct, dishonorable hits the nail on the head.
Congrats on the 2 years Lucki!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carmel :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry lad. You'll get your big boy pants real soon now.
