Vegas Countdown Begins

T-Minus five days and counting.

Ms. Duck and I leave for the desert Saturday morning. Usually, we fly a puddle jumper from Waco to Dallas, then get on a real plane for the flight to Vegas. This time however, we are flying Southwest out of Austin. I'm not looking forward to the drive early Saturday morning, then trying to navigate around an airport that I've never visited before.

Southwest gave us 50,000 points to sign up for their credit card, and the trip for both of us is around 37,000 points, so I jumped on the deal. So, it's costing $15 for both of us to fly round trip. Plus, no baggage fees (I'm looking at you American Airlines)! But, Southwest doesn't fly out of Waco, so we have to make the drive.

We have a short stop in Phoenix on the flight out, but our Friday flight home is direct to Austin.

Saturday night we're booked at Sam's Town for $69. The strip hotels are just too expensive on the weekends, so we always stay off strip. Sunday we move over to the Venetian for the duration.

I'll be playing a lot of poker of course, but will also attempt to introduce Ms. Duck to Pai Gow. She's not too big on table games, preferring Deuces Wild video poker, but since her play will have no effect on the other players, she won't have to worry about pissing somebody off. If you've played blackjack before, you know what I mean.

Hopefully, I'll have time to post a few stories. Whether they'll be profitable stories remains to be seen :)

    1. Are you sure the regulars in Ballys' poker room aren't footing the bill just to get you out there and win all your money :)

  2. How long are in Vegas for? I'm guessing I'm gonna just miss you, sadly. Do you rent a car? I assume you do if you are staying at Sam's Town, aka, god's country.

    1. We're be there from Saturday the 25th till Friday the 31st.

And yes, we always rent a car. It's so much easier to get around town than waiting on public transportation, especially when it's 115 degrees!

  3. Southwest doesn't fly out of Memphis -- you have to drive to Nashville or Little Rock AR. Big bummer.

Have a safe and fun trip.
