Loss

Suzy and Randy
Randy was a great athlete. Leading scorer on his high school basketball team, quarterbacked the football team, popular with the ladies. You know the type.

As distant cousins, we would see each other in the summers. His family lived in Wichita, ours in Texas, but we would all meet in Tennessee, for that was where most of the older members of our family lived.

Randy devoted his life to Christ at an early age. To try and describe him without mentioning his Christianity would be like telling someone about Billy Graham and leaving out the fact that he was a preacher. His faith was an intricate part of his being.

That faith led him to become a counselor in a summer church camp. At that camp he broke his neck in a diving accident, leaving him a quadriplegic. After months of rehab, Randy was able to regain some use of his arms and get off his ventilator.

After the accident, he rededicated his life to Christ and became a counselor. To count the number of people Randy helped over the years would be impossible. The testimonies on his Facebook page are endless.

Yesterday, Randy, his wife Suzy, and his service dog were killed in a traffic accident in Wichita. It's hard to describe the sense of loss I feel, I have such a great amount of respect for this man.

Rest in peace Randy, you will be missed.

  1. What a handsome couple and what a shame for this tragic accident. My sympathies to you.
